What a whirlwind first two days of this trip!!! BNA to LAX to NAN to SYD with over 18 hours of flight time put us on the opposite side of the world. For Alex it was his first time out of the country, for Tammy and I it was first time in southern hemisphere.
We left the US on Thursday May 29th, landed in Fiji on Saturday May 31st. We had no Friday!!!
Even with all the travel time were still all smiles, because it was so worth it. Feeling the warmth of Fiji as we got off the plane, a Fijian sunrise with it’s yellow and orange glow, then seeing both Sydney architecture icons as we flew over the harbour for landing.
Although tired once we got a shower we all were refreshed and headed out to see the city surrounding our hotel. The old and new style of buildings really mix well together. A stop into a McDonalds for a coffee turned into lunch as they had a bit of home on the menu, messy but really tasty. Later picked up a few unique foods including TimTam cookies, yummy!!
After a short break and a change of clothes (June 1 is first day of winter here) we headed to see the opening night of Vivid, an awesome light spectacular all over Sydney Harbour. To get there we took the public train system, very similar to a US subway but much nicer and cleaner. Our hotel is right next to Central Station and lines go out to many parts of the city including the harbour. Lots of people but the lights were awesome, pictures just don’t do it justice.
After a well deserved nights sleep we headed out for our first full day of Sydney to explore. More sites to see along the way, rode the light rail train to get back to the harbor area to explore more in the daylight. Alex got picked to assist a fire juggling performer, we explored cannons of Dawes Point, then climbed up the Sydney Harbour Bridge for some magnificent views. After fish and chips we enjoyed more of the sites including the Sidney Opra House and a stroll through Chinatown were the scents of Asian cuisine filled the air.

This looks awesome! I’m going to follow it as much as I can. One stupid question from me (may be more later) is are you in Fiji or Austrailia currently? I know you plan to hit both.
Have fun and post when you can. 😎
Currently in Australia still… Sydney for 3x nights, just arrived in Cairns for 4x nights, then to Fiji for 4x. nights.
